Vithalwadi Community, Pune (1987 – )

In 2003 we started the boarding for the children of HIV/AIDs patients and broken families.   The community and the students were living in a limited space making a lot of adjustments. Hence in 2011, the construction of a new building for Vidya Kiran boarding was started, demolishing the existing old building. Hence the students and the sisters stayed in a rented place of the Jesuits for almost 2 years. The construction work got over in early 2013 and the students and sisters returned to our new boarding. The sisters do not have a separate residence instead share part of the boarding. Today the community of Vithalwadi is blessed with forty vibrant and enthusiastic students who are so happy and enthused with the life in the boarding and in their schools. They are developing both academically and in character level and the sisters hope that they all have an enhanced future ahead and make a difference to their society. 

Vittalwadi is in Pune the same city as that of the provincial house, 13 k.m away. It is on the way to a famous historical place Singhaghat, of the Marata warrior Shivaji, and the famous dam in Kadakvasla. Pune is an intellectual city with many educational institutions of different kinds. There are many firms and industries and possibilities of getting different kinds of jobs. So many people migrate from the villages, educated and uneducated or unskilled. Thus the city grows and expands fast. Vittalwadi is in the midst of a very fast developing part of the city itself. All three sides of our property are covered by roads.    The demarcation of our property was done in late 2019 and we could enclose our land. So we could do some cultivation of vegetables and fruits. Sisters and students share the work in the land and enjoy the fruits.
