PATNA

Patna Community, Patna (1987 – )

In 1987, the formation house was shifted from Pune to Patna in Fairfield Terrace at Digha Ghat. The community is situated eight kilometers away from Patna railway station. The novitiate community falls in the Kurji parish of the Archdiocese of Patna. Patna was a place conducive for formation mainly because the Church is of the poor with people of deep faith and vast possibilities for pastoral experience. It is in a multi-religious and socio-cultural milieu. We bought the house in 1993. The formation community was active in the pastoral service in the parish, in Fairfield Colony and Bans Koti, with weekly prayer meetings in the families, distributing communion to the old and sick, visiting families, attending area holy Masses, and being with people in their joys and sorrows. Patna community remains as the formation house especially for the candidate’s initial formation and college studies.

Slowly the social apostolate in Patna was developed as the community responds to the need of the people and started a social center called ‘Nava Jeevan Educational and social Welfare society, Digha’. The work of the Patna community has grown in quality and quantity over these years with the hard work and enduring spirit of the sisters, the collaborators, and friends. The Province is ever grateful to the sisters for their dedication and selfless service to the people especially the downtrodden and those in peripheries.
