CHEPARAMBA CONVENT KERALA

Cheparamba is a remote village situated about fifty kilometers away from the District Headquarters Kannur. People from the Central Travancore District of Kerala are settled here for the last seventy years. All of them are farmers and agricultural laborers. There is no industry here. Now some granite quarries are established for mining and stone crushers are also established. Environmental and pollution problems may arise in the future. The area is very calm and peaceful. Christians and Hindus are living together in great harmony. The economic situation is very grim. The low prices of agricultural products, lack of industries, and lack of jobs are the reasons for the lack of prosperity.

We belong to the Archdiocese of Tellicherry a Syro Malabar diocese. The zealous missionary work, systematic catechetical formation, activities of pious associations, and other movements helped a lot to form a vibrant Christian Community in this region. This mission diocese is working hard for the accomplishment of its dreams under the efficient leadership of Archbishop Mar George Valiamattam

  • Our Parish is St. Jude Church Cheparamba. The priest of the diocese suggested to the sisters to start convent in Thellicherry diocese.  We chose Cheparamba because there was no convent in this parish which was started in 2003. Cheparamba consist of 165 Christian families and 22 Hindu families. People in general are rather poor, working in quarries as daily wage earns. Women are very hard working and creative to take care of the families. Some women work in quarries. People are concerned about giving good education to their children. Our purpose was Vocation promotion, English Medium School, Pastoral apostolate and Social work.
  • The foundation of Cheparamba Community was in April 2007. The sisters stayed in a small house which was already in existence at the time.  Mar George Valiamattam, the
  • Archbishop of Thellicherry blessed the house and the chapel. The sisters of the Cheparamba community were fully involved in the pastoral work of the parish, nursery school, counseling and women empowerment programme.
  • The new Convent building was blessed in 2012 by Mar George Valiyamattam, the then Archbishop.
